Diapers, Burps and Late Night Feedings
Man, oh man, it’s been a crazy week here at Red’s Planet! As those who follow on Twitter know (hint, hint), last Monday (May 3) my wife Beth gave birth to our second child — a beautiful baby girl! We’ve named her Teagan Rose after two Doctor Who companions (not really, but the circumstantial evidence is pretty incriminating). Thank you to everyone who sent the generous congratulations via Twitter and Facebook!
As you can imagine, with all the diaper changes, feedings and all night screaming (my screams, not the baby’s), there hasn’t been a lot of time to get much else done. And that goes for new Red’s Planet pages as well. With our story leaving off with Red running away from her foster home, we really couldn’t be in a better place to take a short break. I’ve decided to take a couple of weeks off to catch up on things, and will return with new pages on an all new update day, Wednesday, May 26. And let me tell you ahead of time, the story get’s really fun from here!
One last thing—as many of you know, my inspiration for Red’s Planet is my oldest daughter. In the introduction to the print edition of Red’s Planet #0 (a limited quantity on sale now at the Wishtales online store) I recounted how I pitched the story of Red’s Planet to her one Sunday afternoon. I wrote:
A few months ago, I was hanging out with my 7-year-old daughter, Ginny. To pass the time, I decided to tell her the story of Red’s Planet, emphasizing the action with energetic hands and glossing over those few puzzle pieces I had yet to find. She listened intently with an occasional “wow” and seemed to enjoy the tale, but I didn’t expect that it would stick with her like her favorite movies or books. So I have to admit, I didn’t think much more of it until, later in the day, I heard her describing a scene to her mom. She told it with the same excitement as if she had just watched it on dvd.
The day after Teagan was born, Remy Creecy, creator of the comic Black Cats, absolutely floored me when he emailed a beautiful comic (posted below) as a congratulations of Teagan’s birth. He wrote, “…after hearing about your adventure today, it inspired me to give you a congratulatory strip. Its just Ginny giving the Red’s Planet pitch to Teagan (like she did to your wife after you told her the story), who is rather pre-occupied.”
Remy, you have no idea know how well you captured both my daughters as well as the dynamic of our family! Thank you so much my friend!
Thanks again to everyone for your congratulations and continued support of Red’s Planet! You guys make this fun to do! I’ll see everyone in a few weeks with all new Red’s Planet!

That’s really great
That is a super sweet comic. and congrats
Well, you realize you can expect one too, when your new little one comes. This’ll be number seven for you, won’t it?
yup… number 7 in Jan!
Congrats! Seven years since you did the baby thing? Don’t worry, it’s like riding a bike. A fun, cute, crying, poopy, barfing bike.
Two girls… almost as bad as two boys.
Congrats!

Jeremy– Incredible gift. Can’t tell you how touched we all were. Ginny laughed her head off, but Eddie and I were speechless. Thank you!
PJ– I just read your comment (in between diaper changes). LOL!!! I’m thinking I might just have to write that quote down in the baby calendar.
You’re very welcome, Beth, I hope everything is going well.
